UFC 144: Weigh-in Results and Impressions

UFC is in Japan!!!!

MAIN EVENT

-UFC Lightweight Championship-
Frankie Edgar (154) vs. Ben Henderson (154)
Henderson came in lighter than usual, definitely looks it. Edgar is in better shape for this than his previous fight with Maynard, probably a sign he’s completely healed from injuries. Great staredown.

Rampage Jackson (211) vs. Ryan Bader (205)
Bader is a freak of nature. Crowd explodes for Rampage. Unsurprisingly, Rampage tarnishes what could be the biggest moment of his career by missing weight. He alluded to this in the pre-fight press conference when Dana asked what he weighed, replying with “You don’t even want to know.”
-Rampage reveals he suffered an injury in camp that nearly took him out of the fight completely. Rampage says the injury is the reason he missed weight.-

Mark Hunt (264) vs. Cheick Kongo (249)
Kongo is huge! Hunt is big, but doesn’t look bad. Should be a great fight if they stand.

Yoshihiro Akiyama (169) vs. Jake Shields (170)
Shields looks good, not too drained at all. Akiyama gets a decent pop from the crowd. Looks sexier than ever at Welterweight.

Yushin Okami (185) vs. Tim Boetsch (186)
Boetsch look a bit thinner. Okami is a beast.

Hatsu Hioki (145) vs. Bart Palaszewski (146)
Hioki is popular with the crowd and in great shape.

Anthony Pettis (155) vs. Joe Lauzon (156)
Nothing noteworthy.

PRELIMINARY FIGHTS

Takanori Gomi (155) vs. Eiji Mitsuoka (154)
Both look good. Should be an exciting fight.

Kid Yamamoto (136) vs. Vaughn Lee (135)
Both look great. Yamamoto looks strong.

Riki Fukuda (185) vs. Steve Cantwell (185)
Cantwell looks really well-adjusted to Middleweight. Fukuda looks like a powerhouse!

Takeya Mizugaki (135) vs. Chris Cariaso (136)
Cariaso looks soft, could maybe make Flyweight? Mizugaki is ripped.

Tiequan Zhang (146) vs. Issei Tamura (145)
Tamura has an awesome tattoo on his back. China vs. Japan! Good face off.
